Water after planting and continue watering twice weekly. If drought conditions exist, water every second day. Place a garden hose at the base of each plant and follow these instructions:
| Small Plants (1 gallon container) |
20 sec. (1/2 gallon) |
| Medium Plants (3 to 7 gallon container) |
45 sec. (1 gallon) |
| Large Plants (15 gallon container) |
2 minutes (3 gallon) |
| Small Rootball | 5 minutes |
| Medium Rootball | 10 minutes |
| Large Rootball | 15 minutes |
Grass Seed and Ground Covers can be watered with a sprinkler. Because their roots are extremely small, they need watered once a day for 30-40 min. On a 90-degree day it may be necessary to water twice a day.
We suggest using soaker hoses for large trees and beds.
*Watering should continue for the first year and until the ground freezes; usually around the middle of December.

I. Planting Hole:
Holes should be dug twice as wide as the diameter of the root ball. The depth should be so that 1/ 8th of the root ball is above the surrounding soil level.
II. Planting Procedures:
A. Container
Remove plant either by turning over the container and tapping the bottom or by cutting the container (whichever is more easily done with minimal disturbance to the root ball). If the roots are tightly matted, cut and loosen them with a knife or fingers.B. Burlap
Do not remove the burlap. Place ball in hole and make sure the string around the trunk is completely cut. Also cut 6 four inch vertical slots in the sides of the burlap.
III. Planting Mix:
½ soil (the dirt removed from the hole) and 1/2 pine bark mulch (or leaf gro) should be mixed and used for back filling.
IV. Backfill:
1/8th of the root ball should be ABOVE the surrounding soil level. DO NOT PLANT TOO DEEPLY. Tamp soil firmly around root ball, eliminating all air pockets.
V. Finishing:
Make a ring of soil (berm) around the outside edge of the hole for retaining water. Fertilize regularly, and mulch for moisture retention and insulation.
